Ok I agree it is a lot easier with power and a good set of tools, but look how it is done with knowledge, skill and the most basic of tools.
A freind of mine posted this on Twitter, Shawo Village China, turning bowls. Notice how the elderly gent is using a metric rule not imperial, he got the memo ;D ;D

Brilliant video Mark. An unusual type of lathe too. However I don't think that was filmed in China as the old guy is clearly called Ron according to his hat ;D

There's a similar video on youtube about a guy who uses a small lathe driven with one hand, and using his feet to guide a skew chisel (the only tool he uses) to do spindle turning. He makes chair legs, chess figures and all sorts. including captured rings.
