Post by: Cookster on May 24, 2019, 10:52:31 AM
Hi I have a KC APTC M900 lathe same as the Axminster model I think, I need a chuck but not sure of thread size also what good all round chuck would you guys recommend? I am on a bit of a budget as I have other bits and pieces to buy as well.

Cheers in advance

Ideally you don't wnt to go for a cheao chuck as it is such a major part of your equipment. Having said that Rutlands, not a store known for top quality perhaps does have a good chuck (https://www.rutlands.co.uk/pp+power-tools-woodturning-lathes-woodturning-accessories+c16000). I bought one from them some years ago and have never had a problem. The axminster, sorby or nova chucks are all good but not cheap and no doubt others will recomend other ones as well. Make sure whatever you get you can get a decent variety of jaws for it.

You can find an Axminster manual for this lathe, here...https://www.axminster.co.uk/media/downloads/aptcm900_manual.pdf (https://www.axminster.co.uk/media/downloads/aptcm900_manual.pdf)...I had a quick look and it says it's a 1" x 8 thread.
