Hi All
I spent ages looking at other people's ideas on tool storage, especially
ideas for tools with trailing cables.
I saw many ideas, lots of which were really good but looked as though they
were expensive to make both in time and money.
I came up with this idea, which I had'nt seen before, when I was in
the local shop that sells things for less than £1.01 and thought it worth a try.
So far I'm quite pleased with it, I just dangle the cord into the folder/holder,
(I'm not sure what they are called), and push the tool in.
I need to get a few more, they're not always in stock but I
thought I would put a piccie here in case anyone likes the idea...

They look like magazine holders anything that can be used to help keep things tidy is a good idea

I would love to be able to start over with my workshop, knowing what I want in it before cobbling it together.

There never seems to be enough storage in my workshop even though I keep adding more!

Last week with an unstable piece of wood on the lathe - i felt something gently caressing my left leg! :o :o :o The reciprocating saw which sits on a shelf under the lathe was coming loose with the vibration ::) ::) ::)

My problems are
1, All workshops are exactly 1/3 the size they need to be no matter how big they are.
2, Everything I make produced 3 x the volume of shavings and 7 x the volume of sawdust to the volume of timber I started with
3, I have exactly half the number of clamps I need
4, when I am perfectly stocked and equipped for making item A, I want to make item B
5 , When all my tools are perfectly stored. Then I see a new tool I really really want.
Guess chaos with signs of inadequate storage attempts is my only option

All workshops don't have enough storage and there is dust and sawdust in abundance.
Most people would rather buy tools than storage... IMHO.
I bought some kitchen wall cabinets with a plain/simple white doors that were on offer e.g. half price including fittings/fixtures etc.
4x 1m cabinets gives 8m of "enclosed shelving" for about £104 total. NB £4 was for 4m of cheap battening that I put under the cabinets so that they can't bow (probably wouldn't, but I thought it was cheap insurance and the guarantee is only 10 years LOL).
I put the wall cabinets onto the back of my garage with a scrap piece of DPC behind. Putting shelves on the lowest settings means I can reach up to the bottom shelf and intermediate shelf with ease. I can of course put other bulkier tools on the top too.
In the workshop the value placed upon tools that are not covered in dust and sawdust and are organised e.g. not in a pile on a bench can't be over estimated.

Agree, best to have lots of cupboards so things don’t get covered in dust. Makes cleaning up much easier too.
