Hi All,
I'm looking to buy a decent 1/2" bowl gouge. I've been using an old Record one so far but haven't been very impressed with how long it holds it's edge (although maybe this is just down to my poor technique). Anyway, seen as it's the workhorse tool, I thought I try and go for something good.
I've been looking at the Sorby, but have also heard good things about the Crown Cryo. Any thoughts?
Cheers

Hi Dave
I stock and use the Robert Sorby, like you I started with a Record and soon ditched it. I find that the Sorby holds it edge fine I must do I have about 12 of them in use.

I shall be converting to the Crown Cryo soon....I understand that it really is about as good as it gets. If you search back through this forum, you'll find an extensive thread by Mark Sanger, about exactly this matter.

Crown Cryo for me

Crown Cryo for me, too. I have several of them, and they are my go-to tools. Only for the finishing cuts do I use an older bowl gouge with a traditional grind.

I recently got 2 Crown M42 Razor Edge from Mark-1/2" standard grind and 1/2" long grind ;D
