Title: Another wood ID
Post by: Paul Hannaby on March 10, 2019, 08:01:34 PM
At first i thought this might be Kingwood but now I'm not so sure. Possibly cocobolo? Or something else altogether? The log is approx 10" diameter.

please smooth off the bandsaw marks paul.

it does look a bit like very old cocobolo but i need more info about it like smell, weight, hardness and workability.

I'm not planing it! ;) The original surface was very grey and weathered so I sliced a few mm off.

It does have a "spicy" smell like cocobolo and the shavings were orange so you're probably right about it being old cocobolo. It's pretty hard and very dense too. It could have been hidden away for quite some years.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of it when I cut it up and turn it.
