Hi David. That 'beech' looks suspiciously like a horse chestnut to me!

David,
Always good to plan for the future, but maybe it won't be one of us that gets to work any of those tree's.
But tend for them well my friend, plant them on safely and enjoy watching them grow. Nature needs all the friends it can get.

Hi Les, interesting you say that, I'd not been too sure as to it was Beech, looked like it and wild too, then given the past weather it's late budding, the others have all wintered in the green house, hence being so advanced in leaf at this moment.
Bryan, so true, I hope to continue with them for as long as anything can given these days.
Cheers David

A day or so more an it looks as if it will be out in full leaf, can tell then and another picture too, if that's the case, I've found another small pot hiding away that could be Ash as well, I could have 3 Ash .. good as we're faced with the die back, if they remain safe.
Cheers David

On ash trees /twigs the buds appear in pairs " opposite " each other ( as do maples and some others ) beech are alternate ie one on the left ,next on the right . this is one of the main identification keys for winter twigs . beech are also much thinner twigs and smaller pointed buds .
