The spalted beech box looks wonderful Woody. What was the cheat on the mahogany box ?

.... What was the cheat on the mahogany box ?
....I'd hazard a guess that Woody is referring to the fact that he's cut the form into two, hollowed it out then stuck it back together. In my workshop, it's the only way it ever gets done. Doesn't strike me as cheating, just as a means of achieving an end. Looks good, too! :)

The mahogany box has been turned as a bowl and then the top let in, but along with the rest of the work, I find that perfectly acceptable, its a nice piece.
But above that, I'm with everyone else, the spalted box is beautiful to look at, even the step in the lid fit's into the shape.

Thank you gentlemen the spalted Beech box sold almost as soon as I finished it and yes my cheat was to turn the bowl first and let the top into it I was going to create a bead on the join to hide it but decided against it I think its good when you can see how things are made at times it encourages new turners and a few did have a go at making one when they see how easy it is which to me is a good thing

Ahhh. OK. Do I consider it to be cheating............. Jury is still out :)
