Hello Hughie

You're certainly getting the hang of it.  well done.  For me I'd prefer a satin finish rather than gloss - but that's just me

Cheers Dave

Hi Hughie
This is a nicely proportioned vase, open form, whatever. The size and number of the spirals is perfect for the size of the item and the finish is excellent. Well done you.

Hi Hughie,

yep we like this piece - lots.

Would you care to explain some of your methods for laying and shaping the flutes/grooves so evenly please.

Its not rocket science  :) by hand

Layed out via the idexing on the lathe, in this case 24 position, arcs done with a compass.

Cut the spirals with 'Vee' gouge something leftover from my carving days. Formed up the spirals with sand paper, just time and patience. But using a soft wood makes so much easier. I am contemplating some Red Mallee for the same, this will slow me down considerably.  ;D
