Chainsawing through some newly felled apple and then a dreaded rattle as metal clashed with metal and I knew I had hit a hidden nail (pictured).
Can anyone recommend a good metal detector for running over a log before cutting commences?
THIS (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Garrett-10051-Super-Scanner-V/dp/B00ESBDOPA/ref=pd_ybh_a_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=A4WABM57HWKTMD94311J) looks like the best contender, but quite expensive!
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Tim,
The link you provide is for large objects if you look at the description small items are only detected a few inches away, which is about the same as a good Wire or Metal pipe detector you can get for £20 from Ebay they will find most metal up to 50mm in depth.

Many thanks for that good advice Martin.
Will go down that (much cheaper) route.
