Finishes
« on: November 11, 2012, 04:30:25 PM »
Can anyone help? I have been asked to make some salad bowls. The food safe finish I am using (Chestnut) is giving a matt finish. Does anyone know of one with a "satin" or semi gloss finish?

For a satin finish on food bowls I always use Danish oil and if the finish is a bit to shiny I cut it back with 000 wire wool  or webex

why would you want a semi gloss finish on a salad bowl? After use it will be matt anyway. Patina will come with use. Chestnut food safe is perfect for salad bowls. I'd settle for the matt and not be tempted by other finishes which may have volatiles added.

chestnus food safe is by far the best finish around for this aplication
