Tazza

willstewart:
Yes - I never heard of a tazza either before it was set as a competition, but an old word adapted from the Italian for 'cup'.  Now used for a shallow pedestal bowl.  This example from lignum vitae (so one could actually drink from it, hence the thin rim) for bowl and stem (two pieces of course) and a walnut offcut for the base, with cast-in-place pewter ring.  The bowl had no surface coating at all giving a shiny waxy appearance but I had applied a very light coat of food safe oil which brightens it a bit.  Stem and base with friction polish coatings.

Pictures not ideal as the width makes it hard.  Bowl diameter 230mm, thicker towards base

better pic

seventhdevil:
where did you find a wide blanks of Argentine lignum then?
don't see that too often.

willstewart:
I bought a substantial log from Whitmores a few years ago.  Possibly a one off but I have been using it ever since!

seventhdevil:
i see, must have cost a bit. how big was it to start?

got one from there myself for a customer.

managed to buy a lump off Ebay too that also most likely came from Whitmores.
