Not sure that is wood! has a look of black palm to me https://www.wood-database.com/black-palm/ which is odd stuff to work with!

Thanks. Certainly strange to work but my working of it was stopped because of an emergency trip to hospital (nothing to do with the wood)

Absolutely not black palm...your photos suggest Keruing. Did it smell fairly resinous?

the wood is called Ekki. one of the many (like rock) timbers that get used in the construction industry.

Thanks for your trouble guys looking at this. The pictures say it all. Certainly looks like the photos on the database of Ekki Its great having someone who takes the time to check things out.
