I was given a crotch of an Olive tree recently by a friend. It was cut down about 20 years ago and left out in the open. Over the years it has cracked, the bark had all dropped off and woodworm had a small feast (all dead now though).
I cleaned up the 3 ends and sanded them. I planed some flats on the backside of the crotch and then mounted it on the lathe. I then turned a bowl shape into the other side. I filled the larger cracks with a mix of coffee grounds and pva glue and once that had dried I sanded. I sprayed the whole log with acrylic lacquer. It is around 40cm by 30cm by 20cm and will stand on the back or on two of the three cut ends.
As there was nowhere suitable to sign it I printed a disc on my 3D printer in wood filament and glued it into the base.
Only suitable as a decorative piece. C&C welcome.
