Thank you Pete and Steve it was a piece that I was given back in 2016 and it did not have any bark on it and was already split down the pith if my memory serves me right.
It was the width of the growth rings that got me that is why I put a question mark in the title. It turned very nicely and left a very clean surface that I was able to start at 180grit and in some places it may have even been able to start at 240 grit that is how well it cut.
