I know some turners dislike the chucking recess  being left on but I prefer to remain

I use a recess a lot and as long as it is made a feature as you have here it just becones a glorified foot. Also allows for the piece to be rechucked if necessary later. Thought the 2nd image was something doifferennt at forst, looked like mahonia that coplour LOL.
Glad you left the bowl a basic simple shape leaving the wood to do all the shouting.

Clever use of a wide rim to accentuate the feature in the woodgrain

It was suggested by one of our clubs demonstrators that a spigot mounting is often more secure, but besides that gives a greater choice of foot shape. I’ve seen club members produce some very elegant feet on their work as a result of this comment. I think it doubtful I’ll use a recess mounting again unless the blank demands it for some reason.

I admit, I followed the photo link back to the Flickr account where I was able to find an image showing the overall shape of the bowl. It's a well formed Ogee that balances well.
Glad you did not try to decorate the rim, that would have been too much for the spalting.
