Ash Bowl
« on: April 04, 2019, 03:33:52 PM »
This was one of Ray Key's roughed out bowls I bought at the Seminar last year. I thought it was about time I did something with it! It's 16" diameter and 4" deep. The outside was a straight forward re-turning to true it up with a little reshaping near the base to form a foot. On the inside I added a wide curved rim with an undercut. Finished with a couple of coats of oil for use as a salad bowl.

To my uneducated eye, you have managed to include a few subtle nuances (the curved rim and the gentle undercut) whilst still keeping the form simple and allowing the beauty of the wood to shine. You've done it justice. I like it :)

As stated elsewhere a lovely piece with some great grain. I like the fact that you kept it simple and close to what Ray roughed it out as. A great loss to the woodturning community

Paul,

I think Ray would have been proud of this piece you've made from his collection of prepared bowls.
