Veins of Gold
« on: August 22, 2018, 06:01:53 PM »
I've had this lump of Elm sitting in my wood store for 4 years so mounted it on the lathe a while ago weighting at 114lb.

The finished bowl is 11" tall and 23" in diameter.

The voids and opening have been coated in Chestnut Gold Gilt Cream.

C&C's welcome as always.

Good to see you on here again, Ed, and good to see such a piece of timber being put to good use.
Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Thanks Les

Don't know where the time as gone. Been keeping an eye on the forum but just not posting anything.

Seem to be spending my time doing demo's or teaching.

All the best

Ed

Nice job, Ed I like the idea if using the gold to cover/fill the voids and cracks. Malcolm.

Good that you kept it in one piece, not a lot of structural integrity left in places.  ;D

If I had a better lathe, I would be able to show my ineptitude more effectively.

Ouch Derek, what are you trying to say mate  ;D. I have been in my workshop turning loads of things.
I went over Ed's to collect a few things today and I took a look at this bowl and I can honestly say that the picture's don't do the bowl justice, it's a lot bigger than it looks and it needs to be seen to be appreciated. Les
