I think that the single spiral technique gives a more striking appearance. Maybe the use of a second colour confuses things as well. However this is the nature of the beast. Pursuing an idea may run up one or two blind alleys. I think though, that there is a lot of mileage in the concept and plenty of fun to be had with it.

I agree!  The first bowl is probably the nicest....
