A Few Ideas
« on: September 13, 2018, 08:32:45 PM »

Not turned anything this year apart from tidying up a bowl for Diane. Thought we would post some old photos that photo
bucket wiped off. They are a few pieces of different ideas.
 1st a pair of something
2nd burr oak rim on ash bowl

But first a question .. In 2010 I made this bowl its routed on the outside with bowl on inside cast pewter foot ... can anyone
work out how I did it because I can't remember .. it was 10 years ago  :) :)
  Regards Tony

Tony, Di,

I love it when you two play together and post the results. Too early to decide which is my favourite of these, possibly the Black/White (Yin Yang) vases.

But what is on the top of them, I can see something but cannot make it out.

Hey...it's so good to see your work on here again....but I've no idea how you did that routed bowl. I remember a few of these pieces and it's good to see them again.
Hope you're both keeping well....Les

I did a routed piece not too long back and made a jig which I used with an index wheel the jig was designed with a collar around the bit so that it could follow a curved surface and still keep the router cutting at say 1/42 all the time. the collar can be adjusted to give a deeper or shallower cut. One of the photos shows the collar in place. The whole jug runs on a base board fixed to the lathe bed

Thank You Derek.. I can see what you are saying but I use the swinging arm technique on my routed bowls.
I cannot remember how I put it all together. Must be an age thing :)
  Kind Regards

Tony how nice to hear from you again I hope you and Di are keeping well? I can't ever remember seeing the piece with pewter before but I would hazard a guess. It looks as if you cut the slots on the table saw as they stop at the foot where the pewter ring is. Just a thought.

All Good John.... All the pieces are done with a router on a swinging arm. The piece has been done in two parts bowl and
outer piece , on final build glued together. I cannot remember how I held the lattice part for routing. The added photo is
how I usually do them. The piece has been done convex where most of the pieces are done concave, both using the
swinging arm with router attached to it. If that makes sense.  :)
  Kind Regards Tony
