I've been staring at this one, there is something about it. Then it struck me, the inserts are actually aluminium exudations of various shapes.

Do you work in that industry or something that uses these shapes?

The platter was for an aluminium extrusion company , so the profiles were collated from their testing samples. From memory there are stiffeners for up close windows, frame for a glass topped chest freezer, train window, roller blind weight bar, etc.
