Exotic woods.....
« on: July 25, 2017, 09:27:24 AM »
...Pah!  Who needs 'em?!   ;D ;)

Couple of bowls from a piece of elm branchwood, the end of which had been previously trimmed and was open to the elements for about 4 years.

Love the simplicity of the design and shape of these. Not easy as any faults show up but can't see any here lol.

Thanks folks

Pete - simplicity is my watchword.  It's both what I love in others' work and what I strive for in my own.

Hi Chris, agree with the others lovely bowls.
There is a lot of character in our native woods that beat exotics any day.

Ken

Seen those colours in various native woods ranging from green in poplar to english walnut ranging from dark brown and cream to red and white, green and red in laburnum (OK not strictly native but might as well be). Blackthorn ranging from black to red, white and green, the list goes on.  Woods such as apple and cherry can vary rigt across the spectrum as well.

Chris
I have to say I don't like them ...
because...
...
...
I didn't make them :)
The first one especially nice, I think - colour, shape, finish.

I'm sure if we lived in Africa or somesuch, we'd consider British Elm an Exotic Wood.

Chris, I like the simplicity of these shapes where the colour stands up and speaks for itself.
