earring stand in unknown wood
« on: February 09, 2017, 01:24:18 PM »
Hi guys
Another turning from me, this time an earring stand, it stands 7" high and is 4.5" diameter, this stand was inspired by watching Steve Jones video on youtube, an absolute master with the skew (and all tools to be fair), I have put a picture of the wood used, so if anyone knows what it is please say, anyway hope you like it and as usual c&c welcome.
Regards
Andy

Looks like oak to me but I am happy to be corrected.

You've doen a good job of that and yep, I'm with Pete on this, it's a piece of oak....not your regular grain pattern, but fairly typical of the sapwood/heartwood mix that you get around gnarly old burrs.

Nice job Andy, Thanks for the mention and I'm in the Oak camp as well.

Any one wanting to see the video it's on the forum but looking at the views I think you have all watched it.

I'm also saying it's Oak Burr.

You've done well reproducing some of the curves Steve manages so easily in his video, and achieved an excellent finish on it to boot.
