Very interesting. I have just bought Stuart Kings 'History of Woodturning, DVD and he has made one to Leonado Da Vinci's drawing. Stuarts verdict was that it worked but was slow.

Slow and hard work. Even the pole lathes are hard work. Tried one for about 15 minutes and my leg was aching. I have access to a couple of custom made treadle lathes as well and sorry, I'll stick to electric. The history is fascinating though, the ingenuity of people.
