Hi George,
Sorry to say that this piece in the series doesn't work for me. The bowl turning itself is fine but there's no real reference to the scorching on the top aside from the black line. The underside could work but the few patches showing unscorched wood detracts in my opinion.
I think I'd be inclined to get a wire brush on the base to subdue the black/natural contract .

But hey... that's just my opinion.
Cheers Rick

Your opinion is as valid as anybody's
The flecks you see on the bottom always appear when you scorch Oak it is burned until it flakes and then is wire brushed off sometimes little bits flick off that is then back to bare wood .I could go over the scorching wit black spirit stain but that would defeat the object The top has no scorching because I wanted the contrast between the plain and scorched wood.
I hope that explains everything

I like the lack of scorching on the top of this one. Let's face it, from whatever angle you look at it, you're going to notice the scorching on the edge.....it's almost as though it's teasing you to look at it. Pick the bowl up and look underneath and you get the surprise of the full scorching.

Would have re scorching after wire brushing eliminated the light patches. Like the design of this and the way when viewed from the top that the scorching highlights the outer shape

yes it would Derek but if you see it in the flesh you can see the grain through the scorching and it all seems to go together nicely.

George,

I can see the difference between this one and the first of this series you posted. The flutes are becoming more even and fluid, just enough irregularity left to see it's been handmade.

I agree, it begs to be picked up and turned over to see more.
