Ed,

I don't like to say it but I thought something was going to leap out and attach itself to my face!

Clever use of circles, complete holes and pyro'ed effect. Very much an open seed pod type shape, very effective work that blends together well.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

I too, saw the open seed pod, it was my first thought upon opening the first picture. Interesting texture, and I like the pyro/scorched rings more so than the piercings. Was there a reason for stopping the decoration short of the base? I feel that little area of plain sycamore tends to lead the eye away from the decoration.

Thanks Bryan & Les

The idea is base on a husk

It's another one of those ideas I've started playing with, it needs some refining and I think that your right Les the plan ring around the base needs something so there will be another and another till it ticks all the boxes :)

All the best

Ed

I must be a delicate little flower. I saw a tulip  :)

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
