Hi Di and Tony

Like what you are doing here, much prefer without the finial.  Love the organic texture of the form, the colours are great with both tying in well with the leaves. The pewter rim and snail add a great contrast of both material and colour. What doesn't work for me is the base, the main composition is close to a natural autumn and I feel the light base neither compliments or contrasts this well enough to feel as if it belongs.  My preference would be a heavily scorched oak base of the same size so that the main focus become the form, leaves and snail instead of the base colour over powering the piece. I would also leave the rim without a leaf and scatter them around the base, or make a finial with two leaves of a more horizontal plane as with a maple helicopter seed thingy  :) and a lid that replicates the colour of the main form.   just my thoughts of course. Thanks for posting.

Thank You Pete much appreciated........ Originally it was a themed piece called fire, but nothing I or We did seemed to gel together
Although we new it was not quite right but felt  more ok with this base so everything else was forgotten including change the finial.
Its a pity that not every element ( base ) was not made by us, something we try to do even if we do colour it. :) :)
   Kind Regards

Hi Mark .... Thank you for the suggestions . ... Strange but  this started on a burnt and brushed base
with a few more leaves than on this one but unfortunately we could not get it to gel.
Its always good to get feed back and we are always open to suggestions.
  Kind Regards

Now I liked the finial but think it needed to be more open, I'm sure it was the shape of Sycamore seeds, so it should have looked like they were falling, as Mark says.

I'm really liking this burnt and then coloured Oak burr your doing lately, it gives a very interesting and tactile looking (okay I ave felt a bit of it as well) effect.

Well I like the first one hey the finial was a bit different but that's down to personal taste and I like it, but the second image I really like I think the leaf on top make's it really pop.

Not mad keen on the base, but the texture and colours you both put together are top draw in my book :)

All the best

Ed

After Re- looking @ this piece decided the lid was a bit bright ...... Tony made me another and I painted and added
the leaves which now seems to blend better for me.

Thank you very much Ed for viewing and your feed back its very much appreciated

Of the three views this last one is the best in my opinion. Flows very well, even the base works better with it.

I am pleased to be able to see something of your developmental approach it certainly opens my eyes a bit wider. Thanks Di & Tony for that.
Of all the pieces I like the 3rd one best, still not quite right though IMHO.

Have to echo what John says. So often we make something that for some reason just doesn't seem to work and give up on it. Good to see you playing around with it and adjusting, adapting until you feel you have got it right.

This last version is superb. The textures and colours really demonstrate the feeling if autumn. Well done for keeping developing this. IMHO I think you are there now. Malcolm.
