like the stone housing - this must of been put on after turning?
why do i feel the need to turn a block of wood into shavings?

..yes Steve. I use a forstner bit to drill a shallow, 50mm diam hole in the side of the bowl, then turn a wooden lozenge to fit into the hole.

.... I use an archivist pen with a fine point. These pens are ideal for this purpose, because they'll take cellulose, melamine, oil etc without blurring.
