Candy Floss - Yes or No
« on: July 28, 2015, 10:52:46 PM »
This is something different not yet quite finished but it's title is Candy Floss

I'm getting a very mixed reaction so it would be helpful with a Yes or No. Don't worry you won't hurt my feelings  :)

Thanks

Ed

Personally I think it is a step too far. The one picture looks a bit like it is a tyre to me. Having said that the effect you have got is something that no doubt could be used at some point in the future, no experiment is ever wasted.

Ed,
I'm afraid it's also a No from me.

it's not a complete no from me as there is something interesting about it.

how about trying it with no colour and being able to see the wood underneath? there is too much colour for me and i'd like to see some wood without having to peer inside...

YES ... Ed.

You're on an incredible journey, pushing the envelope of what can be created from a blank canvas turned firstly on the lathe.. And we're along for the ride.. frankly... you're scaring the crap outta the traditionalist round, brown and functional ... or that it's, why didn't we come up with that ...  ; ;D ..

Will be good to see where you take this as an end result .. Candy Floss or not.

Cheers for the journey.  David

I just noticed Pete's opening words....which were the exact same words that I used on facebook. I Haven't changed my mind about it being 'a step too far' for me, but I do applaud your imagination and your willingness to try something new and then to pursue it as a theme.

I also thought it was a birds nest. Interesting but the wife would call it a dust trap.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

On the fence with this, perhaps a little refining.

What was the method for the "floss"?

Thanks All  :)

Well I've managed to achieve what I set out to do. This piece has had more comments good and bad than any other I've publish.

It was designed as a piece of art and art should cause debate and it's done that alright :)

Method for making floss a fast lathe and a nice glue gun  :)

All the best
