I can't decide what to watch.
« on: July 28, 2015, 07:53:26 PM »
With the vast choice of presenters at the seminar I am finding it very difficult to decide what or who to watch. I ought to watch Pete to give him support as he is from my club.......but I have seen him before and probably he will demo at the club again. I want to watch Mark Sanger as I always enjoy his demos and I always learn something. Mark Hancock and Nick Agar are among the best demonstrators on the circuit and not seeing them would be a crime. I have seen Paul Hannaby demo before too at shows and our club but have never seen Carlyn Lindsay, so ....so far I have one UK presenter that I have not seen and I haven't even started on the internationals yet.
and do I watch something that I have no intention of doing in the near future or something that I do a lot of in the hope that i can learn something new? and will Simon Hope's trader slot demo be on his hollowing tool ?as I intend buying one and a demonstration of it in use will be useful. I do pyro engraving but watching Cynthia Gibson would be really beneficial to me.
So much to see so little time in which to see it. :-\ :-\ :-\
So I am still undecided...I think. ;D ;D ;D

I'm demoing at the same time as Mark so will miss him. Have to have a pocket full of coins to toss I think. Spoilt for choice.

I feel for you John. I am in the same position.

Though Ashley Harwood is a given.

I love urchins and fine finials. :)

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I have spent the morning going through the program and apart from a couple of sessions where some of the talks have limited information I have made up my mind at last.

And every choice I have made has been tinged with a bit of regret over something else I would like to have seen.

Well done Graham, I am still undecided. Ashley Harwood may be  (one)the star (s)of the show but as I am not particularly enamoured with sea urchin things  her demo holds no interest for me.
The first session is a toss up between Mark Hancock and Carlyn Lindsay and as I have seen Mark demo before I might plump for Carlyn.
The second session is almost certainly Cynthia Gibson's pyro engraving as I have an interest in that.
Having googled Jean Paul's work is appears as though he is an ornamental turner so no interest to me there either so making the choices has now become a bit easier.
Mark how about a clue to your surprise demo? was it a surprise to you or will it be a surprise to the rest of us? ;D ;D

I really need to start getting my act together and go through the list.

BHT if it helps Simon will properly have his hollowing rig set up & working on his stand so you could get a one to one demo. Also I know Joey Richardson is with Simon.

All the best

Tagliatelle with scallops and lanqoustines in a carbonara sauce.

Don't know yet as I haven't started preparing for that one.  :)

I am hoping to watch Mark H, Cyntia Gibson and I like pyro, Michael Gibson as I have always fancied having a go at a Tea Pot and the techniques involved. Just going to enjoy myself as at the last Seminar I had whooping cough and felt not much better than death, how ever that feels that is.  :)

Sooo glad I'm not alone with this problem!

I have decided to approach it by firstly discounting any demonstrators I have previously seen (with the exception of Stuart King - I would watch him demonstrating paint drying).  The priority has to be the international demonstrators as I won't ordinarily get the opportunity to see them, then the UK ones previously unseen.

However, this train of thought is likely to change many times over the coming week...............  ??? ::)

Can't wait  ;D ;D

I also used the principle of picking the ones I am not likely to get the chance to see again but also tempered with the demo being about something I am either really interested in or likely to be in the future.
