Burr Ash bowl on plinth
« on: July 07, 2015, 03:16:38 PM »
Hi all

You may remember a picture of me I posted some time ago of me sat on a rather large Ash burr. This piece comes from that burr, it is around 150 mm dia sat on an oak plinth which was intended for a different piece but I popped the burr on it and liked the effect, may change my mind tomorrow  :) which is fine as I can soon make another.

C&C welcome

Plinth does not suit the piece smaller and black would be better

Possibly, hence my inclusion/discussion about this in my initial write up.  :)

nice bowl mark but it does look like it's just been placed on a chopping board. i think i would look fine without a plinth.

Just placed on a chopping board, just placed, it took me hours of contemplation and fine adjustment,  :)

but you have to say it is a nice chopping board.  ;D ;D

The more I look at it the more I agree with you and George, as I previously said the plinth is for a different piece so I can swap it over. Personally I prefer pieces like this to have a plinth of some type as opposed to being without, but that's because I like plinths  :) so am biased.

This is why I always leave a piece for several days before I make a final decision and why I don't use glue  :)

Thanks for your honest comments, much appreciated.

 Hi Mark,
Beautiful piece of work I love it and you don't have to agree with George (GBF) if he comes round to sort you out just call a few of your old buddies to come round and lock him up. ;D ;D

                                                                Regards John

Thank you John, your comments are appreciated.

It is interesting the differing views on work that is shown.  I only agree with George as if I don't he cries as says that I am picking on him, he is allowed his opinion and I am allowed to ignore it.  :) :) It is a shame as I was going to give it to him as a gift so he could see how to turn a decent natural edge bowl.  :)

Thanks again.

If you would like it then I will wrap it up for you and give it to you at the Seminar, I can soon make another plinth for the other piece.

It looks OK on the plinth but that's about it for me. Gorgeous bowl but needs more of a contrast, wonder what it would look like on a piece of slate?

Thats a stunning bit of wood and well turned, i dont think such a nice item nees a large plinth.
why do i feel the need to turn a block of wood into shavings?

Mark,

It's a stunning piece of timber brilliantly turned, But...

There is nothing about it that says 'Mark Sanger', I'm not used to seeing your work and not immediately identifying it, (even SWMBO recognises your work at a glance). I guess I'm saying it needs a little 'something' of your magic to give it a signature.

Yes it is a lovely breadboard, but as a stand, too thick, too big and too close in colour to the form causing it to blend in, not stand out.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!
