Hi Steve,

You've close, if but the other side of the M6 to me, there's a sign at the lights off the A5 for Four Ashes or on the A449.

If it's to take tuition there's a more local chap: http://steveheeley.co.uk/ .. He attends most of the Clubs & Events and specializes in all aspects of turning.

A date for your diary and an Event again closer is in May 15th/16th which is Woodworks@Daventry: http://www.tudor-rose-turners.co.uk/page36.html ... one very good, not to be missed Show.  Chance to see and meet not only Fellow Turners; but Suppliers as well.

Cheers  David

Just being pedantic but how can you specialise in all aspects ? ( sorry, not had me morning cuppa yet )

Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Good question.
I think the answer is that it draws a distinction of one activity against another. Carpentry for example.

after woodturning for around eight yrs,I thought I was getting quite good at it,then I joined my first club and found I wasn`t really after all, using the tools wrong etc,not sanding well enough, but they were very good at pointing me in the right direction,so when you feel able to post some of your work online, don`t be afraid, people will help you with advice etc;the same as they do at clubs, online forums for the most part are a good place to see what`s out there,oh and if you can get some back copies of woodturning magazine, they`ve just done/still doing, a series on how to use tools with close up pics of entry points of the turning and directions of cut etc;or if you can borrow some of the mags of a fellow woodturner in your area,it will be a good start, cheers,

Eric.
welcome to my woodturning world

May have been better too have said 'Turn his hand to most things' .. Call me Old School, everyone really needs to understand the basics, which is where we all start, we can and do go then into following a particular path or developing a given form.
