Thanks, everyone, for the kind words of encouragement. Sal (SWMBO) has read through them and is very appreciative of your support.

.....let us know where it is so that we can visit......
The address is...
Pren, 71 High Street, Bala, Gwynedd. LL23 7AE

and the shop sign should be a bit of a give-away!

Well Les,  How's it gone after a Week, have you hit your targets, still have Holiday Monday.

Are you finding time to sleep.

Well Les,  How's it gone after a Week, have you hit your targets......
Much to the puzzlement of banks and accountants, we didn't write a business plan for this little venture. Firstly, because it's a completely new type of shop for the area, so there's no accurate business model to base it on, and secondly because we were hell-bent on getting out of the work that we were in (special needs education) for the last three years of my working life, and just having fun doing something that we wanted to do. Thus, there are few targets that we can refer to.
However, I did consider a figure for minimum annual turnover, and to convert that into cash in the till on a daily basis, I divided it by 300 to give a figure for average daily takings......a bit simplistic, but very much in line with my plans for the shop. Here's how it went this week....Monday and Tuesday, marginally over target; Wednesday is half-day closing in Bala and it hammered down with rain all day, and we got 40% of our target, Thursday wasn't much better, so far as the weather was concerned and we got 60%, Friday 150%, Saturday 250%, Sunday 66%. So all in all our average turnover was fine and just over target.
The best thing is that we're being noticed. Loads of local people have called in, bought something and promised to spread the word. We have sold items from across the range, although the more expensive bowls were slow to take off. However, Saturday was amazing. We had several local professional people who's heard on the grapevine during the week, come to see us to see what it was all about.....and I started to sell my more expensive bowls.....so I'm happy!

That sounds great Les

Bankers and accountants don't understand the entrepreneur, there are always risk involved but if you workout like you seem to have done and plan that you can run for 12 months without taking a penny you will be fine.

With your passion and skill for woodturning, that will come across and people will be happy to buy from you. You have already proved that you can sell your work from the other outlets, so this should be a good indicator of what you could achieve with your own shop.

Banks love business plans and cashflows but you just pick these out of the air and it ticks their boxes. If your not having to use their money then it's got nothing to do with them.

Keep up the good work

Well done Les. Long may it continue.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Les,

week one down, as long as the good words keep spreading the news of your arrival we caqn only hope that things go from strength to strength for you.

I assume Sally is mostly running the shop, leaving you at home to turn, or have you moved the lathe to the shop as well?
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…
