Black walnut dish and bowl
« on: February 26, 2015, 02:25:32 PM »
Hello again, this is a black walnut dish 11 1/2 x 2 inch. Finished with linseed oil and wax.
The second is a lidded bowl made from black walnut, teak (reclaimed by an architect from a demolished 17 century Thai building) with a purple heat knob. 8x6 inch.
Following the discussion in a previous thread of mine, I like to point that in this case, without a stand, the lower profile of the dish is practically hidden on the contrary the bowl, given its dimensions, shows better its profile.
What is your thought on this. C and C always appreciated.
Thanks.

Sevilla,

I like the lidded vessel although I think there are still a couple of tool marks on it, or is that just a trick of the light.

The platter interests me, the rim looks to have afterwork, are there small flats or some other sanding work done to it?
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Thanks everybody.
Dr4 : yes, on the left middle section I see two burnishing marks. Not too visible in the real piece. It demonstrates that the bowl is hand turned! ;)
The dish has a twenty four faceted rim. I like faceted rims, I think they add samething.

Both are lovely shapes though I haven't seen the lidded shape before.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
