Lovely collection. IF I were to choose favourites it would be top right and bottom centre, but couldn't really say why.

Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Well Done Steve........ Your definitely on the right track. Having checked  catalpa on the net and against the piece ... I will
agree. I have posted a pic of the bark which might confirm it or not.
   Thank You Steve

there were 4 I was fairly sure of and 4 guesses, I'll rest on my laurels and let someone else have a go.

looks alot like it, bare wood should look greyish and the pith of the tree is a soft mush.

rings can be 1/2" or more wide.

which of my guesses were wrong?

    Thank You ED...Appreciated

Hi John....Its been a lot of fun. Some of the turning was a bit restricted by the size of the wood, though think they have
shown the grain of some lovely woods that can be found in gardens.
      Best Regards

Apart from the offcuts I get from the furniture factory I rarely use anything other than native or garden woods. Any ideas what this is? As a clue it is a wood that you would expect to be more commonly available than it actually is. I made this some years ago and haven't been able to get any since.
