Help - please identify this object...
« on: December 26, 2014, 06:31:38 PM »
Hi,
Can you help me identify this object, which came with a box of bits and pieces with a second hand lathe.

I just cannot fathom out what the function for it is. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Robby

Is it some sort of thicknesser that would work in a rotary fashion either on a lathe or drill press? It looks like there are teeth on the edge of the detachable "blade" so you pass a piece of wood over/under the flat face of the blade and it takes a thin cut off the surface. If my guess is correct, the detachable bit is probably replaceable when the teeth get blunt.

it looks very much like a head to a spindle moulder for inter changeable cutting blades for making biscuit joints.

I agree, I think it's off a spindle moulder,
I wouldn't go spinning it up on the lathe anyway just incase (*rubs hole in head*  ::) )
It's hard to see 100% what it is for sure.
Good luck.

i'm a joiner and have never seen any such gadgetry for spindle moulding. i'm yet to be convinced.

can you give us some more details about it?

dimensions of everything may help.

if it comes apart any more then can we see it's components.

I think it could be off an eccentric spindle moulder, but the more detail, (size/pics/dismantled) the better

I can still remember how "nasty" the really old model can be
