Oh dear. Call me thick. I have only just realised it is a smilie.

I don't normally do this, and forgive me, Graham, but you did ask for it....you're thick ;)

Hi Les,
I agree with you. It is not so much the content of the picture, nor how it was 'created', it the dishonesty of claiming it to be genuine. Genuine photographers were/ are only too keen to explain their techniques, be it darkroom or software related. Sometimes those 'modifications' took more skill than capturing the original images.

If the groups administrators are not prepared to listen to the truth, you are better off out of it.

Regarding copying in woodturing, I take it as a real compliment when I see any of my work 'copied' as it implies the turner was genuinely interested in what I had demonstrated. But the key difference is that turners can't 'cut and paste' from the original, they still have to be able to produce the work themselves. I suppose it would be like cutting four legs off a piece of Chippendale and fixing them to another chair, then trying to claim the new piece was a Chippendale.

Merry Xmas,
Regards,

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Talking of copyright - I assume you did get permission from the owner of the image before posting it here?

Hi Julian & Paul
...I lifted the image off a friend's pc, out of a library of clip-art that he had. I understood it to be in the public domain, but Julian's post suggests otherwise. Paul....do you want me to delete it, just in case? I'm happy to do so if it causes any doubt or difficulty.

If you have purchased a disc of clip art you are free to use it, when you buy the disc you also buy the license.

....exactly what I thought, Ed. What concerned me was Julian's statement that he'd seen 'the original' with a price tag on it. I guess that in these days of digital image technology, discovering what is an original and who it belongs to is becoming a bit of a minefield.

In the original post, it was mentioned that the image was posted on the web by the person that took the photo. No mention was made of clip art! That begs the question - why are we debating the authenticity of an almost worthless piece of clip art!  ::)
