Vase
« on: December 12, 2014, 01:20:19 PM »
Hi all, This is a vase I turned recently. The cherry developed a split while hollowing thus I had to cut a few inches out of it and add a piece of black walnut. This made difficult to reach the shape I was looking for.
The decoration is pyrography. CandC welcome.
Thanks for looking.

It's got a lot going for it, despite the fact that it's not a shape that we regularly see. The overall shape is quite pleasing and breaks down nicely into 'thirds', and the contrast of the two timbers is good, they suit each other well. On top of all that, the pyro work is delicately done and looks good.
All in all, I'd say you'd nailed this one!

Sevilla, I love the way your forms are so simply executed and the delicate pyrography brings it to life.

Thank you all. I just realized that I posted the same picture twice.
Here is the other side I wanted to post.

I like the shape and the mix of woods and if it were me would not admit to it not being intentional  :)

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Nice balance, use of lumber with flowing form and delicate pyrography.

Well done.  Cheers  David

Nice looking vase. Good wood combination, even if it wasn't planned at the start. Malcolm.
