Down my way I use copper wire stripped out of electric cable (the stuff normally plastered into a wall rather than the flex from granny's iron!). Rather than toggles I grip both ends with pliers.The wire is stiff enough to keep its shape so, when you need to withdraw it from the workpiece, let go with one plier and withdraw it with the other.
The wire gives a semi circular burnline whereas formica leaves it square. A shallow cut with a narrow parting tool burned at the bottom with formica looks reeeeeet neeeece, by the way.
