A totally different subject
« on: November 14, 2014, 04:01:05 PM »
Now I don't want to get maudlin here but after having to clear a few workshops over the past 12 months or so

because the former incumbent has changed postcode to one other than earth it got me thinking about what I

want done with my tools when I die. Now we are all aware of the saying about he who dies with the most tools

wins!! but if you are anything like me you will have a serious amount of kit when you pop your

clogs. So have you made any plans? Favourite charities or something?

PS. I'm not open to offers at this time!! :D :D

John,

I won't say this has not crossed my mind before now.

I think like many of us I am a member of a club and a couple of times in the last 6 years we have had to face this problem. Certaily in my club we are prepared to take the tools ans sell them off to club members or at one of the events we do as a club on behalf of the widdow.

it's an oppertunity for newer members to get a few more tools at a reasonable price, so we know they will continue to be used and loved, and saves one more heartache to be dealt with.

I have told my son in law exactly how to dispose of my tools when I go, I hope he can remember what I said!

This is something I'd not thought about until recently when an engineering friend asked if I'd be a executor in his will, he has two daughters who take no interest in engineering & as he has literally 10's of thousands of pounds worth of kit he didn't want to think that his life long collection of gear could end up being sold for far less than its worth.

Me, I just hope the good lady wife doesn't sell my kit for what I told her it cost!

So I can't decide at the moment what to do with mine, which doesn't unduly worry me at the moment (I'm good for another few years yet)but what does worry me is whoever has to dispose of my kit will not know where all the bits that go together are. Things like thread inserts for various chucks and I have a box with different cutters for different hollowing tools but they are not interchangeable. Just things like that really.

Sound advice for any piece of kit .. the key for just that chuck/jaws only.
