Fountain MK3
« on: May 12, 2013, 12:00:38 PM »
This piece was a bit of a trial, luckily it was always going to be painted, dyed etc;the first section above the base went fine, turned and carved both sides, the second layer was a profusion of mishaps, first I went a bit to thin and through in one pace,so had to turn off the outer section, turn back the inner section then let another piece in to rectify the problem, then when drilling the six holes for the trumpet pieces,I got the spacing wrong on two of them (don`t ask me how)so had to turn off that section and turn a new boss for the trumpets,(got the spacing right this time),so all going well,I carved the top then was just finish sanding when it caught(and I had just stood up to get a better look under the lamp),well it flew out of my hand, hit the cjhair on the way down and smashed onto the floor, two large pieces and numerous small ones(which I couldn`t locate),so spent 2hrs piecing it back together and rebuilding the pierced bits that were missing with epoxy and aluminium dust mixed in to stop it being so runny. The piece is made from Oak,Brown Oak(base),Maple,American Cherry,Cherry and Padauk( I think going by the orangy colour),its 16" tall,14" at the widest point, the trumpets are 5" high and 1 1/4" across at the top,I hope you like, regarde,

Eric.

This is the sort of piece that I admire but will never have the patience or time to make unfortunately. It is wonderfully OTT and reminds me of some magnificent tropical flower.

Really busy and colourful, have you been taking lessons from Jenny Starbuck?

I love the work that's gone into it and effects you've created, even if to me it's a little OTT.

Hi Eric,
You did warn me that your next piece would be more colourful and intricate.
Although these pieces are not my cup of tea you obviously have achieved a very nice piece.
Regards
Ken
