Maple Platter Before & After
« on: May 17, 2013, 09:30:41 PM »
This platter 10" x 1 1/4" was originally textured with a pyrography pen & coloured in acrylics. It was entered in an exhibition a few weeks ago with a lot of people leaving comments " spotted the OWL ". A lot of people also said they didn't like the "flames", and one lady asked if I could return the edge to a natural finish as a commission. I still had a chucking recess in the base but the platter must have "moved" as there was no way I could get it true.
I eventually used my texturing tool to sand the rim back and also texture the rim with a dental burr. Mrs.E was very pleased with the result.C & C very welcome.
PS.   The "owl" is a natural inclusion.

Rod, some wouldn't give two hoots about this one, but I like what you've done, as with Mrs. E. It's so nice when the unexpected is revealed in a piece.

Well done.

I think the flames look very well done, whether they suit the piece is debatable. But I like it.

Rod,

it all looks good to me. But as were are all making suggestions on how you could have doen it different.

Wouldent the Owl have prefered being in a nest instead of the Barbecue?
