Elm Sculpture
« on: April 29, 2013, 09:25:11 PM »
Hi All

l have not posted for a few weeks as I have not had internet access. I notice that there has been a lot of activity on the forum so a lot to catch up on.
This piece is made from an old elm board which had to many defects to cut bowl blanks from it.
It has been finished with lemon oil on textured surfaces and wax polish on turned areas
Overall size 937 mm x 370 mm and 50 mm thickness

Ken,

that is certainly impressive.

Any chance of a couple of close-ups of the decorative effects on it please?

Yes thank you Ken.

What did you use to create the large 'squiggles' over much of the surface. They look too big to be from a normal burr on a Dremmel type tool.

Hi Bryan...I think that Ken has soe highly trained anobium punctatum!

Ken.....great sculpture....only one problem; whereas I used to see lots of bits of firewood in my woodpile I'll now be going cold in the winter, but will have a big pile of potential sculptures. great way to use those odd-shaped peces

Lovely work Ken, I like the contrasting textures and the different focal points.

Thanks for sharing.

Ken, one stunning Sculpture, had to be very interesting as it turned. Well done,  thank you for sharing.

Thanks David glad you liked it - sorry about late reply but  had to dash away on family matters for a few days.
Had to be careful when doing the turning which was mainly at slow speeds due to a lot of out-of-balance.
