Play Time
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:46:00 PM »
Seeing Rodericks vase reminded me that I had this one on the side. It was started some time ago but I had to get some commissions done and it got forgotten. Having some spare time today I manage to get it done. It's 10" tall, 4" diameter at the top and approx 5mm thick. Not as pretty as Rodericks but fun to do

That looks like it was loads of fun(!) to turn.

How on earth did you manage to retain the hook in the first pic, my brain says as it was rotating it was leading the supporting timber (behind it).

Whatever you did, well turned.

The hook was fraying towards the end of the hollowing out so I soaked it in CA glue overnight to stiffen it as I wanted to try and keep it as a feature. Apart from that I just kept sharpening my gouge and went very carefully LOL

It's the hook that does it for me, 10/10 for retaining it as a feature!!!

Hi Pete,
Nice looking vase you done a good job keeping it in one piece.
Its not easy keeping control of the hollowing tool with so many gaps/cracks

What a lovely looking vase. That must have been tricky (to say the least) to turn. I'd have been afraid of bits exploding everywhere. Malcolm.

Thank you for the comments. I used to do a lot of these rustic pieces but haven't had the chance much lately. You can never be sure you will end up with anything at all, sometimes they just fall apart, sometimes you are lucky LOL
