Lathe wheel system
« on: December 16, 2012, 07:24:33 PM »
Hi ALL
Does anyone know of a wheel base system that can be bolted onto lathe legs in order to make the lathe easy to move. I know of the lift lock and roll system from carft supplies but this is not available in the UK (USA ONLY).
I am also aware of the charnwood version but this appears to be a general set of wheels for a number of machines.
Does anyone make a substantial wheel base for Jet Lathes.
Happy Christmas and new year to all.
Regards
Brian

Hi Brian

I know that Turner Retreat will order from Craft Supplies USA so if you contact them to ask about the wheel kit they will help.

If you contact Jon Warwicker at the Fairlop club in Barkingside,he might be able to help out,as he made all their lathe wheel systems from scratch using angle iron and bought in braked wheels from Axminster, just a thought if you know a welder, regards,

Eric.
welcome to my woodturning world

Brian,

You could also have a chat to Kent Branch who have a good system for their lathe - we used the same one for our Wivamac.

Another alternative we looked at was the use of caravan wheels - lots about and easy to fix.
