Walnut Hollow form
« on: January 10, 2020, 12:48:16 PM »
The first piece completed in 2020. Felt good to be able to start again in the shed after the festive break. I just needed something simple to start the year.

Hollow form from spalted walnut. Quite punky in places but managed to stabilise. Decided to add a lid and final. I think it could be displayed with or without top.
C & C welcome

What a lovely piece Derek, would look good with or without the finial, has a Mark Sanger look about the form
all the best

Knowing how difficult spalted walnut can be ,  you have made a very good job of this one Derek and achieved
  a very striking piece.

Thank you Andy and Tony.

Not intended to be a Mark look-alike the finial is the second in this type I have made. There are only so many shapes for hollow forms that look right.

It was a little punky in places and certainly needed stabilising, but I felt it was worth sticking with it. Still have more of this in the store some I am sure will not be any good but until I turn it will not know.

I really like that form and the finial works well with it...reminds me of a tuning fork!

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

If you don't mind a rookie question, how did you assemble the lid/finial parts? Is there a pin or dowel holding them together?
