Crewson Bench Grinder
« on: April 09, 2019, 01:47:55 PM »
About 12 months ago replaced the 2 Grinding Wheels with CBN wheels ,( pending my grandsons inheritance) . Unfortunately had a problem within the 5 year guarantee. Axminster whilst they have them on their web etc don't now repair and the UK agent is GATE MACHINERY

hold them to task.

if it is still within a warranty then they must uphold their side of the agreement.

My wife was a Commercial Officer (contract writer), she says you need to look to the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act

Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act are against the retailer – the company that sold you the product – not the manufacturer, so you must take any claim to the retailer.

The point made was that CBN wheels were non standard as supplied with pink and white wheels.

I must say Gate Machinery has been very helpful and sorted out the issue, they are now the UK agents for Crewson and have the slow speed grinder in stock, and must admit disappointed in Axminister

You received good advice and great to hear your problem's been resolved

... but I feel there's insufficient info to be of use to others - not clear on the purpose of your post.

in reply to Sandy CBN wheels are non standard and effect the guarantee, the reason being so I am told is they are heavier and therefor the  strain and balance could effect the machine .....Perhaps the question should be is there any machines which come supplied with CBN wheels .

Ah, problem was with the Grinder, being underpowered due to add'l loading?  I use a bench grinder for profiling and shaping etc and use a Pro-edge to sharpen but I like to read and then (try) to retain useful info others are willing to share.
Thanks for clarifying, Michael.

Axminster can be good and bad , I wanted a Bosch saw stand , On ebay £199 , on Axminster £219 , emailed and asked if they do price match , Answer NO, so my business went elsewhere , Disapointed with this as over the years I have spent a fair few £££ with Axminster , I think they need ALL the money to pay for the BIG new shiny showrooms  ;)

I've never thought of price matching, guess some suppliers would do it(?).

These days I mostly buy online or at shows, but when I have visited Axminster showrooms and bought tools I've always forgotten to ask about a discount till i'm driving home!  Do they still offer discounts to AWGB members?

That's because discount is handled through clubs.

The only time you seem to get discount is at Harrogate Perhaps Axminster would respond and as this original post was not about discount but the fact they sold the product with 5 year guarantee and it was still on their website when contacted about problem  and told they don't stock any more.  Service is more important than discount .

Not sure if it helps but with 2 CBN wheels on my crusen grinder I always give it a spin by hand to get it going - every little helps are they are heavy wheels!
