The Derwent Woodturning club programme for 2019
« on: January 12, 2019, 12:13:37 PM »
The Derwent Woodturning club meets on the 1st. and 3rd. Wed every month, at Sharpes Pottery museum, 23 West Street, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, DE11 9DG. It is open to new and old woodturners alike, and to those who may be just considering taking up this craft.

The venue is fully accessible for wheelchair users but please get in touch for details of the 'Disabled parking'.

We have various types of meetings -
"Hands on" evenings make use of the club's lathes for members to try out tools and techniques. They are also a good social event as you don't HAVE to do any woodturning, you can just chat with fellow turners if you want to! We also have a DVD player to allow members to watch DVDs.
"Club demonstrations" are done by one of the members of the club, to demonstrate a specific project or technique.
"Guest demonstrations" are done by visiting demonstrators, to show one of their own projects.

The club uses twin cameras and projector to ensure the audience has a good view of all the demonstrations.

If you approach Sharpes from West Street, you will see the kiln hovel in front of you. Follow the road to the right, up the hill, onto Alexandra road. After approximately 100m, take the 1st entrance on the left into the industrial estate. Follow the road, behind Cains timber merchants, heading back towards the museum. This will bring you to the museum entrance. There is ample parking in the areas around the museum but it is shared with another group, so please ask the club members which spaces are available.
