Moody Blues
« on: May 29, 2016, 01:14:16 PM »

These are all done with Iridescent Acrylic Paints... The H/F 5"diameter was one of those pieces that did not turn out as
expected  ( thankfully ) ... The 2 bowls are 9"diameter ...The Acrylics are all finished with Auto Cellulose can Spray
and the wood part in finishing oil...these are part of the on going experiment with Iridescent paints.
   Still having trouble photographing these.
   Comments As Always Most Welcome
   Kind Regards Di & Tony

Tony, Di,

I can see the appeal of the 2 platters, they are very dramatic.

But the gentleness of the colours on the hollow form really win it for me.

Hi both....I'm with Bryan on this....whilst they all look amazing, for my personal taste I find the bowls a bit busy, but the subtlety of the HF is beautiful.
Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Thank You.. Bryan ... and ...Les

We also like the first one the best.... although it has  less of a true marbling effect it has turned out better than expected.

On the two platters/bowls the paints were stirred together a lot more... which has given a more heavy marbled effect.

    Much Appreciated
    Kind Regards
    Di & Tony

 Hi Tony & Di,
I like these very much and I can understand the difficulty you are having photographing these it is probably something to do with the Iridescent paints and the high gloss finish reflecting the light I would think there is someone on this Forum who could offer advice on using some type of filter I look forward to seeing these in the flesh on Thursday make sure you bring "Moody Blues"

                                                                                  Regards John

Amazing pieces, paint is not my forte. But I admire those who manage to get it right. Well done.

I like these very much - Can i ask you what substance are you using to float your paints on before dipping?

Thank You Tony..... Carrageenan was used to float the paints on ... 2 to 3 tablespoons to a gallon of cool water
and leave to stand for 12 hours, or thereabouts.
     Kind Regards

Thanks Ed....... It has taken a bit of working out how to stop the iridescent paints from separating too much once they
have been thinned down. Hopefully  I`m now on  the right track. ...... But As Always Without Tony`s Turned Canvases
I Would Not Be Able To Play.
   Kind Regards

All of these are gorgeous. I really like the iridescence and the way the colour flows from top to bottom on the hollow forms. I will have to try marbling one day if I ever get time. Well done again. Malcolm.
