Church font

How many segments did you use to make this, and what size is the font.

Hi John A beautiful piece of work,I like the way you have put the crosses in. a few questions for you.What is the size? What finish did you use? How many segments in total? Regards John

The size is about 600mm diameter and stands 1050mm high
There are 470 pieces in the whole thing.

Do you make a lot of segment work, i don't make segment work at the moment don't think i have the Patience to make all the segments.

I make a few segmented bits a year Philip but it is so time consuming, but they do sell well.

Btw - what finish did you use and will it be necessary to reapply / maintain the finish over time or is it very robust?

Thanks for all your comments. It was certainly the most daunting comission I have had so far. When I was planning it I enquired on this site what finish to use on the inside to make it waterproof. Andy, I think it was you that advised me to talk to Tobias Kaye as he had done something similar in the past. I also had advice from other forum members and eventually I plumped for applying one layer of fibre glass mat with polyester resin. I sent the bowl to a local GRP specialist to apply it as they had all the spray equipment. I left it mounted on the faceplate for easy remounting to polish it. It took me nearly 8 hours to polish it to a glass finish but it was worth it. The rest of the font is finished with Danish oil. The whole thing took 8 weeks to manufacture.

Glad you explained about the finish applied as I was wondering how you managed to seal the wood from the water
