Demos, club meetings etc.
« on: November 10, 2015, 09:19:28 AM »
I know that one or two clubs do post their club meetings on here and occassionally we see a post about a demo but in an effort to broadcast this to the wider, non turning public if anyone would like to have there events posted on the AWGB Facebook page please email me or pm me with details. I am looking especially for demonstrations, hands on nights and dates of club meetings. Perhaps the single question I get asked at shows more than any other is "Did you make all this?" The craft isn't taught in many schools or colleges anymore so the chances for people to have a go, learn is limited. Even the craft shows on TV tend to avoid turning with just the occasional one on pole lathe turning.

I have checked with the 'bosses' and got the OK to try this before anyone asks LOL.

I will have a chat with Shiela ( revolutions editor ) to see if we can get something in there as well Pete

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Hi Pete,
I have offered to put the same info on the website but as you can see from the list of events, very few clubs bother to inform us.

I dont think it is just the clubs that should be telling us. If the pro's doing the Demos gave us a list of where they were and when then that would work as well.

I don't think many of the pros use this forum and a few of those that do don't do much in the way of demos so that will be of limited effect.

You may be right Paul but as my Grandmother used to say "If you don't ask you don't get" and I'll put the message out on other forums as well. Fingers crossed.

Well Paul and Pete, I know it's a little late but this Thursday 12th I will be doing my first full evening demo at Sheffield Woodturning Club http://www.sheffieldwoodturningclub.org.uk/programme.html
by all means add this to the events page.

Wish me luck  :)

Cheers
Rick

Thanks Rick, I'll put it on the page and share it. Hope it all goes well, first one is always the worst one.

Rather than complicating things, we have decided to keep all the events in one place on the website and link it from Facebook so please send information on any events to webmaster@awgb.co.uk for inclusion.

Please include the following information -

Date & start/end times
Location including post code
Cost of entry for members / non members
event / club website
contact name
contact email address
contact phone number

We will include demonstrations or other club events for affiliated / associated clubs and information on trade shows / events / exhibitions of general woodturning interest.
